What this site records, and how the sheets on it work

The pages are files

Every page here is a file that is written once and served as written. There is no account to open, no form to submit and no part of the site that asks a reader to identify themselves. A page is the same page for everybody who asks for it.

As with any website, the server that answers the request keeps the ordinary technical log such a server keeps: the address the request came from, the page asked for, the time, and the browser's own description of itself. That log belongs to the hosting arrangement and exists so the site can be kept running and secure.

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which is the one request this site makes to another host. Everything else on the page — the stylesheet, the script, the photographs, the drawings — is served from this site's own address.

How the two sheets work

The standing order page carries two small working sheets: a consumable run-rate sheet and a clean-cycle cover sheet. Both are arithmetic, and both run entirely inside the reader's own browser.

1. The figures are the reader's. Units in a pack, packs held, use per week, lead time, rooms, minutes, hours. They are typed in by the reader and they stay in the page.
2. The arithmetic is shown. Each line prints the working beside the answer, so the figure can be checked on paper and come out the same.
3. Nothing is kept. The figures live for as long as the page is open. Closing the page ends them; reopening it brings back the worked example written into the file.
4. They are a guide. Both sheets are arithmetic on numbers somebody typed, offered as a working aid. Neither is a stock system and neither knows anything about a real shelf or a real building.

The photographs

Three photographs appear on the standing order page: a stockroom aisle, an office corridor at first light, and a janitorial trolley. All three are editorial photographs used to illustrate the kind of work described. Each carries a visible credit saying so, because a photograph on a company's own site is otherwise read as a photograph of that company, and these are not premises, stock or equipment belonging to CLEAN SWEEP SUPPLY LTD.
